Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday said he has no reason to doubt the statements made by a Russian presidential representative about the progressing negotiations between Russia and the United States on creating a cybersecurity working group.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, Andrey Krutskikh, the special representative of the Russian president for international cooperation in information security, said that Moscow and Washington were in talks on the establishment of a cybersecurity group.
"You ask me to say whether I trust somebody who is an official in charge of cybersecurity? If you don’t trust him, double-check with somebody else. He is my subordinate, I don't have any reason not to trust him," Lavrov said in an interview with the NBC News channel.
Earlier in July during the G20 summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin underlined that there should be no disagreements between Moscow and Washington on cybersecurity, adding that the establishment of a joint cybersecurity commission would help avoid any speculation in the future.
US President Donald Trump later wrote on Twitter that just because he and Putin had discussed the possibility of forming a cybersecurity unit, it did not mean he thought it could actually happen.
