BRUSSELS, June 10 (RIA Novosti) – The decision concerning the date of next trilateral gas talks involving Russia, Ukraine and the European Union has not been taken yet, spokesperson for European Commissioner for Energy Sabine Berger said Tuesday."In the long negotiations important aspects of possible solutions were discussed there are some open questions and some differences remain and it was agreed that negotiations will continue,” Berger said.
"The Russian and Ukrainian delegations will consult with the respective governments or head of states today and following that the trilateral talks will continue either this evening or tomorrow morning and will be hold in Brussels,” she added.
EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger told reporters earlier that Russia, Ukraine and the EU have not reached an agreement during the gas talks, which will continue either on Tuesday or Wednesday.
June 10 is the deadline that Gazprom set for its Ukrainian counterparts to resolve the problems with payment for the Russian gas that has already been delivered. If nothing is done about Kiev’s debt by then, Russia is determined to switch to an advance payment system, ultimately supplying exactly those volumes of gas to Ukraine, which the country has paid for. In the worst-case scenario, this means that Russia can shut off the gas supply to Ukraine starting June 11.
